Church as Collective
At Convergence, we see church as a collective—a communal, creative process rather than a static institution. Just as an artist collective values collaboration, discovery, and transformation, we embrace the spiritual process as our shared work of art.
The church is not a building, attendance numbers, or programs. It is the lived experience of people wrestling with faith, reconciling differences, and inviting God to be at the center of life. Together, we stand in hard places, seek wisdom, and reveal the awe-inspiring presence of God through our lives and creativity.
At Convergence, this spiritual process merges with artistic practice, flowing outward to love and serve the world through our vocations and our soul|makers outreach. We believe God created us to make—to be joyful co-creators, embodying Jesus’ prayer: “May God’s kingdom come; may God’s will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.”
Matthew 28: 16-20; Genesis 1:28; Exodus 35:30-35
The Story of Convergence
Convergence was founded as an experiment in 2007 with a bold question: What if church and the arts could truly connect? We believe that culture is something we are called to create, shaping the world in the image of the Creator. Over the years, Convergence has become a space where faith and creativity meet, forming a vibrant community of artists, makers, and seekers committed to whole-life worship and cultural renewal.
Our journey began when Lisa Cole Smith, an artist and seminary student, saw a disconnect between churches and the arts. Many churches longed to integrate creativity into worship but lacked the tools, while artists often struggled to connect their spiritual and artistic lives. Convergence was founded to bridge this gap, fostering a community where artists and faith leaders grow together, explore spiritual imagination, and embrace their God-given calling.
Today, Convergence continues as a creative collective—people committed to living out the way of Jesus through worship, artistic practice, and authentic community. Whether you are an artist, a spiritual seeker, or someone longing for a church that values imagination and cultural engagement, you are welcome here. We believe that by embracing creativity, we can more fully engage with God, each other, and the world around us.
If you’re looking for a place where faith and artistry intertwine, where deep questions are welcomed, and where your gifts can be nurtured, Convergence may be the space you’ve been searching for.

Values and Vision
The experiment which is Convergence began with a core set of questions and objectives. Over the years we have tested many ideas in our “laboratory” environment and have sought to share all we learn as broadly. Who we are continues to evolve as we follow God’s lead in this exploratory journey. This core remains at the heart of Convergence today.
Whole-Life Worship – Through spiritual practices, we are transformed by God’s love in the image of Christ. This allows us to “pray without ceasing.”
Communion – More than fellowship, communion is the care and feeding of souls. It shapes us into who we were created to be and strengthens our relationships.
Vocation – We are called to become who we were created to be in Christ, using our gifts to serve and participate in God’s kingdom.
Storying – Our lives are interwoven with God’s greater story. By listening to scripture, history, and one another, we deepen our faith and connection.
Discipleship – Following Christ is a lifelong process of growth and generosity as we guide and encourage others on their spiritual journeys.
Stewardship – Everything we have—time, talents, and resources—belongs to God. We are called to use them creatively and responsibly.
Creativity – As image-bearers of the Creator, we are called to make, cultivate, and co-create with God as an act of worship.

Membership
At Convergence, all who participate belong. Those who feel called to a deeper commitment in this creative faith community are invited to join our voting body of Stewards. Many Stewards are members of other churches but share a calling to nurture spiritual formation for artists and create space for seekers to explore faith through creativity.
A Steward is someone who identifies as a follower of Jesus Christ and chooses to take responsibility for the resources God has entrusted to us. Stewards commit to supporting Convergence through prayer, service, attendance, contribution, promotion, and financial giving. This role is open to anyone who feels called and completes the necessary preparation.
Our covenant reflects our commitment to growing as disciples of Jesus Christ and living out His calling together. We welcome all who share this commitment and vision for spiritual and creative transformation.
